How do you explore photography?
According to thefreedictionary.com, “exploration is an organized trip into unfamiliar regions, especially for scientific purposes.” Photography is not exactly an unfamiliar region, and this site is not intended to be used for scientific purposes, but nonetheless the purpose of this site will be to explore aspects of photography that are not commonly discussed. I will attempt to bring a different perspective, but as with all perspectives, mine will be colored by my own biases and personal experiences related to photography. This blog will not be a site that reviews the latest cameras and lenses, but may look at them from time to time to discuss how their use may impact one’s photographic experience.
This website will be heavily laden with personal opinion, simply because that is the only type of opinion I have. Those that wish to differ can do so with their responses and will be posted as long as there is an element of respect. I realize that there are others who will be more knowledgeable in certain aspects of photography, but I believe that over thirty years of photographic experience gives me a certain type of expertise and a unique photographic voice. I am not a professional photographer, but have been paid for my work and as such could be classified as professional from time to time. I prefer to think of myself as a photo enthusiast; someone who has invested entirely too much time and money into the enjoyment of photography for a very long time.
Each post will be accompanied by a photograph, but may or may not have anything at all to do with the day’s topic. It will be much more likely that I post photos simply because I like them and want to hear what you think. Most of the photography that I enjoy is composed in a very simple manner, and is neither too plain nor too busy to look at. If I can add a dash of ooh or aah to round things out; even better.
Feedback and suggestions for topics to explore are always welcomed. If you wish to add your two cents, do it respectfully and I will be glad to post your comments. There is a lot to do, so let’s get started.
